Neuse River Stakeholders Paddle Their Way Toward Clean Water Initiatives
9/4/2007
The Wake County Open Space and Parks Advisory Committee and County staff have worked with the City of Raleigh, the Clean Water Management Trust Fund, the Trust for Public Land and the Triangle Land Conservancy to plan a Neuse River Paddling Event for Thursday, September 6.
County Commissioners, along with city officials and other Neuse River stakeholders, will participate in a two-hour canoe trip down river from a site near Paddle Creek Outfitters, just below the Falls Lake Dam. Officials to participate in this event include County Commissioner Tony Gurley, officials from the City of Raleigh and others.
The main purpose of this event is to emphasize the critical and important resource that the Neuse River represents for all citizens of Wake County. The Neuse River remains a vital resource for drinking water, recreation, and simply our "sense of place."
On October 9, citizens will be asked to approve a $50 million Open Space Bond Referendum. The Open Space Program preserves lands such as forests, meadows, floodplains and stream corridors. The top priority is to protect and improve water quality by safeguarding lakes, rivers and streams.
