Thursday, July 5 - Make, Taste and Rate Smoothies
Kids ages 11-15 are invited to share their best smoothie recipes during a class on Thursday, July 5, 2007, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Southeast Regional Library. Wednesday, July 11 - Frederick Douglass Exhibit
Come learn about the life of American abolitionist, editor and author Frederick Douglass by attending an exhibit, which opens Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at the Cameron Village Regional Library. Douglass was one of the most prominent figures of African-American history. "Frederick Douglass from Slavery to Freedom: the Journey to New York City" is a panel exhibition that traces his life under slavery and his daring journey to freedom. Thursday, July 26 - Learn the Ancient Art of Batik
Youth ages 11-15 are invited to learn how to create batik bandanas on Thursday July 26, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Southeast Regional Library. Batik became most deeply rooted in Indonesia, particularly the island of Java, where it was a highly developed art by the 13th century. It is a way of decorating cloth by covering part of it with a coat of wax and then dyeing the cloth. The waxed area keeps its original color, and when the wax is removed the contrast between the dyed and undyed area makes the pattern. To register, call 919-662-2263. If you love dogs and you're interested in adopting one, come to the North Regional Library on Saturday, July 28, 2007.
