Board of Elections to Conduct Sample Audit, Count Instant Runoff Ballots if Needed

10/8/2007

The Wake County Board of Elections (BOE) will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, to conduct the requisite sample audit. In each election a sample audit of two precincts is required by N.C. State statutes. The meeting will take place in the ground floor conference room of the Waverly F. Akins Wake County Office Building, located at 337 S. Salisbury St. in Raleigh.

The State board of elections selects and notifies counties which two precints will be audited, which consists of counting the votes by hand.

After the sample audit, the BOE will commence hand-counting the Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) ballots , if necessary, for the Town of Cary Municipal Election. This will only be needed if no candidate reached a majority in the first-choice ranking of the IRV ballot.

The BOE will meet at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 16 to certify the results of the votes cast in the October 9, 2007 election.
