Historic Yates Mill to Host Volunteer Interest Meeting July 22

7/20/2006

Volunteer assistance will keep "the wheel turning" at Historic Yates Mill County Park.

Reopened after recent storm damage, the park is in full swing. Volunteers are needed to support the operation and interpretation of the park, including the historic water powered gristmill (circa 1756). A meeting to learn about volunteer opportunities will be held at the park, 4620 Lake Wheeler Road, on Saturday, July 22, at 10 a.m., in the classroom of the A.E. Finley Education and Research Center.

Some of the opportunities are in the area of mill tours, corn-grinding demonstrations, special events, nature explorations, visitor services, history-related programs, and operations and maintenance activities such as trail construction and maintenance. There are many jobs available in these general categories.

Attendance at the meeting carries no commitment to volunteer. The primary purpose is to provide an opportunity to find out about volunteer jobs. Pre-registration is not necessary. For more information, contact Carolyn H. Carter, volunteer coordinator for the park, at 856-6675.
