Wake County Emergency Operations Center Opens
8/31/2006
The Wake County Emergency Operations Center has activated in advance of possible flooding and any resulting evacuations from Tropical Storm Ernesto, and the County is opening a shelter today at 5 p.m. at Enloe High School (West Campus gym), 128 Clarendon Crescent, Raleigh.
As rain intensifies overnight, localized flooding may lead to some evacuations and road closings. The EOC will coordinate emergency response and rescue efforts in the field and is monitoring the ongoing situation.
Standing water on roadways could be a hazard in many locations throughout the County, and homes and vehicles could be trapped by waters as streams rise, necessitating water rescues. Emergency officials urge citizens to stay indoors, if possible, and never to drive into moving water. Call 9-1-1 if you are experiencing an emergency.
Cots, blankets and pillows will be provided at the Enloe shelter, along with an evening meal and an early morning breakfast. Individuals should bring:
- identification and important personal documents;
- toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.)
- any needed medications
- feeding formula and diapers for infants
- a change of clothing;
- and books, games and simple toys for children.
Stay tuned to radio and TV for any future updates or call the Wake County Emergency Operations Center at 856-7044.
