Commissioners Sworn In; Gurley Re-Elected as Chair, Coble Elected Vice Chair
12/5/2006
The Wake County Board of Commissioners conducted the swearing-in of two newly elected commissioners, Lindy Brown and Paul Coble; and two re-elected commissioners, Joe Bryan and Tony Gurley, at its regular meeting December 4, 2006, in the Commissioners Meeting Room in the Wake County Courthouse.
Commissioners also voted to re-elect Commissioner Tony Gurley to serve as chair, and Commissioner Paul Coble to serve as vice-chair for a one-year term, respectively.
Judges, friends, family and staff filled the room and celebrated during a brief recess in the meeting after the traditional swearing-in ceremonies.
Commissioners approved their meeting schedule for the year and decided on a January 26-27 planning retreat to prioritize their 2007 policy goals.
"We’ve made great progress on our goal of meeting the growing demand for new schools with the passage of the $970-million school bond," Gurley said. "Today’s agreement with Holly Hill Hospital to expand its facilities and create a local psychiatric inpatient unit is crucial achievement toward quality care for our citizens living with mental illness.
"Our challenges will be many, and I know that we are all eager to start tackling them as we work together to keep Wake County among the top counties in the nation."
