Wake County to Open Shelter at Enloe High School at 5 p.m. Today, August 31

In anticipation of potential flash flooding from Tropical Storm Ernesto, Wake County is opening a shelter a 5 p.m. today, Thursday, August 31, at Enloe High School, 128 Clarendon Crescent, Raleigh.

"We are encouraging anyone who is at risk of being in a flood-prone area to come to the shelter," said Gibbie Harris, Wake County Community Health director. "We encourage people not to drive after dark and to use the shelter if they are in danger from flash flooding. We want them to come earlier, rather than later to help ensure their safety."

Cots, blankets and pillows will be provided along with an evening meal and an early-morning breakfast. Individuals should bring:

  • identification and important personal documents
  • toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.)
  • any needed medications
  • feeding formula and diapers for infants
  • a change of clothing
  • books, games and simple toys for children.
