News Memo: NRC Groundbreaking, Commissioners Sworn in Monday

1. Northern Regional Center Groundbreaking, 10 a.m.
Wake County and municipal officials will break ground for the new Wake County Northern Regional Center (NRC) at 400 E. Holding Ave. in Wake Forest on Monday, December 4, at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking and enjoy refreshments following the event.
Located on property adjacent to the Wake Forest Library, the NRC will provide Wake County services to residents in Wake Forest, Rolesville and all of northern Wake County. Citizens from Wake Forest and Rolesville have given input on the scope of services at the center, which will be the County's third regional center. Further focus groups and community meetings are planned to engage neighbors and citizens. Ross Yeager is the newly named director of the NRC and will be working with the community as the facility is built.
The Eastern Regional Center in Zebulon and the Southern Regional Center in Fuquay-Varina house such services and programs as child protective services, health clinics, Medicaid, food assistance, Sheriff's office, fire and rescue, Revenue collections, food industry service, animal control, JobLink, housing resources, and waste, water and development programs.
DIRECTIONS: To get to the site of the groundbreaking, take U.S. 1 North to U.S. 1A (South Main Street) into Wake Forest and turn right on Holding Avenue. The site is on the right, adjacent to Wake Forest Library. Contact: Ross Yeager, 404-3987
2. New, Re-Elected County Commissioners to Be Sworn In, 2 p.m. Monday
Two new Wake County Commissioners and two re-elected Commissioners will be sworn in at Monday's Board meeting at 2 p.m. in Room 700, Wake County Courthouse. The swearing-in ceremony will include new commissioners Lindy Brown and Paul Coble, along with Joe Bryan and Tony Gurley, who were re-elected to second terms. Four Soil and Water Conservation Board members, Thomas Dean, Joy Elliott, John Phelps and Donnie Woodlief, also will be sworn in. At this meeting, the Board will elect a new chair and vice chair for one-year terms, and will set its 2007 meeting schedule. Contact: Susan Banks, Clerk to the Board, 856-5565
