Wake County Emergency Operations Center Closes
9/1/2006
The Wake County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will close at 10 a.m., today. On Wednesday, August 30, Wake County activated the EOC to monitor weather conditions and increased EOC staffing at 4 p.m. on August 31, in response to Tropical Strom Ernesto. Key response agencies assembled to coordinate efforts to ensure the safety of residents and property throughout the County.
"Wake County provided excellent around-the-clock monitoring and support throughout this inclement weather event," said Martin Chriscoe, Wake County Emergency Management director. "Operations worked smoothly for a well-coordinated response."
Wake County operated an emergency shelter at Enloe High School overnight Thursday with four people using the facility to wait out the storm. The shelter closed at 7 a.m. today. The American Red Cross opened a shelter from 8 a.m. to noon today at Garner United Methodist Church, but no one has sought services so far this morning.
Overall, Wake County saw few effects from Tropical Storm Ernesto. Overnight there were scattered reports of tree limbs being down along with a few power lines that created scattered power outages. "This was a minor weather event for Wake County," Chriscoe said. "However, we always use these opportunities to learn how to improve our readiness, response and allocation of resources so that we're better prepared for future incidents."
