Cameron Village Regional Library to Close Dec. 3

12/1/2005

At 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, the Cameron Village Regional Library will close its temporary location at 410 Oberlin Road. The library staff will then begin preparations for the move back into the permanent library location at 1930 Clark Ave.

The library has operated in the temporary location, formerly the site of Balentine’s Cafeteria, for approximately 18 months while major construction occurred two blocks down the street. The temporary space, although crowded, served the community adequately and circulation of materials increased while in the location nearly 20 percent. The library has been limited in its ability to offer programs for adults or quiet reading space as well as workspace for staff activity, although the extra parking has been a wonderful advantage.

The renovated permanent location is expected to open January 21, 2006, around noon. The official opening will follow a 10 a.m. parade through the shopping center and a formal ribbon cutting at 11:30.

During the month of November the library staff offered extended circulation periods for books and will be waiving fines from reopening day through February to allow customers to keep library books over the holidays.

Patrons of the library are encouraged to use any of the other 16 libraries in the system while the Cameron Village Regional is closed. Libraries closest to the Village include:

·         Richard B. Harrison (1313 New Bern Ave.),

·         Athens Drive (1420 Athens Drive at Avent Ferry),

·         West Popular Lending, (5800 Duraleigh Road), or

·         Cary Library (310 Academy St.).

The closest Regional Library is North Regional, located at 200 Horizon Drive (just beyond Six Forks and Sawmill roads). The Cameron Village outside book return bins will be open through December 12 at 410 Oberlin and at the new building beginning December 13, 2006.
