Final Public Meeting Dec. 6 for Post-Closure Use of North Wake Landfill

12/1/2005

The fifth and final public meeting to get input from citizens on how best to use property surrounding the Wake County-owned North Wake Landfill after it closes is scheduled for Tuesday, December 6, at 7 p.m. at Durant Road Middle School Auditorium, 10401 Durant Road in Raleigh.

Previous meetings have served to educate participants about the opportunities and limitations for land uses at the site, find out what types of uses are desired and put them into a draft Master Plan. At the meeting on Tuesday, the Final Draft Master Plan will be presented along with a final request for public input.

Next steps in the process will be to present the Master Plan to the Wake County Board of Commissioners for adoption at their regular meeting in January 2006. The landfill is projected to be at capacity and close in late 2007. Once closure is complete, work to implement elements of the Master Plan for Post-Closure Use may begin.
