Are you a writer of historical romance or mystery? Are you a genealogist or family historian who wants to put some flesh on the bones of your ancestors? Join mystery writer, Dewey Lambdin, as he shares the skills he uses to research a particular period in history and reads from his newest novel, "What Lies Buried: A Novel of Old Cape Fear," Tuesday, November 1, at 7 p.m., at Olivia Raney Local History Library, 4016 Carya Drive, Raleigh.
In pre-Revolutionary Wilmington, North Carolina, nothing is as it seems. In "What Lies Buried," respected political leader Harry Tresmayne has been found murdered beside a lonely road in Cape Fear, and the more his friend Matthew Livesey uncovers about Harry’s private life, the more he finds motives for murder. Soon the suspect list includes some of the highest- and lowest-born of the region, and Livesey and his family face the consequences as a cold-blooded killer is run to ground. It is a compelling tale of people struggling to make a new life for themselves and discovering the secrets that lie within us all.
Readers of Lambdin’s acclaimed Alan Lewrie nautical adventure novels will be entertained by his trademark historical accuracy, strong characters, vivid action and period dialogue. With a wealth of local color, he brings Colonial Wilmington and Old Cape Fear to life in his newest series.
Join Lambdin as he talks about how he researches for the historical detail that creates a context and setting for his stories and allows his readers to be caught up in the fast-paced yarns he spins. Copies of his newest book will be available, and a book signing will follow his presentation. Become a sleuth and discover the fun of research, as tours of the library will also be conducted for interested investigators.
