County to Break Ground Nov. 3 on Holly Springs Library

10/31/2005

The Wake County Board of Commissioners, the Wake County Library Commission and the Town of Holly Springs are pleased to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for the Holly Springs Library and Cultural Center. This event will take place Thursday, November 3, at 4 p.m., on West Ballentine Street in Holly Springs.

Holly Springs Library, to open to the public in fall 2006, is among the facilities to be developed with proceeds from the October 2003 $35-million library bond. It will be part of a cultural center complex in Holly Springs and bring much-needed library services to that area.

This library will be the 11th branch library in the County’s library system, serving the residents of Holly Springs and surrounding areas. The building will be located near downtown Holly Springs.

“Wake County Public Libraries have long provided outstanding service to our citizens and to our schools, and have played a critical role in our community,” said Wake County Commission Chair Joe Bryan. “I am especially proud of our partnership with the Town of Holly Springs in extending these much-needed services to citizens in the southern part of our county.”

On November 17, 2003, the Board of Commissioners approved entering into an interlocal agreement with the Town of Holly Springs for using approximately seven acres of land for development of a new branch library, in conjunction with a cultural center to be funded by the Town. The County will retain ownership of the property and will execute a 99-year lease with Holly Springs for the cultural center portion of the facility.

As part of the agreement, Holly Springs will realign West Ballentine Street, which currently runs through the site, to the north side of the site to provide more space for development of the building.
