Wake Reads Together 2006: Let the Voting Begin!
10/5/2005
For the fourth consecutive year, Wake County Public Libraries is sponsoring Wake Reads Together. Area residents are being asked to choose the book that all of Wake County will be reading this winter by voting for one of five nominated titles. The election process occurs between October 10 and October 31 in all public libraries as well as online (click here) and the winner will be announced in January 2006.
Wake Reads Together is a community-wide reading program that encourages everyone to read the same book at the same time and then to come together in libraries, schools, book clubs and with area agencies to talk about the book and its themes, meanings and plot. By discussing the selected title, everyone participates and gets to know the community better.
Wake County Public Library staff members made the five selections from a field of nearly 150 nominations from the public. Consideration was given based on the appeal and availability of the books as well as ancillary programming aspects and the potential for good discussion. This year’s nominations include:
- All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
- Blood Done Sign My Name by Tim Tyson
- The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
- A Parchment of Leaves by Silas House
- The Sweet Hereafter by Russell Banks
Visit your local library, in person or online, to cast your vote by October 31, 2006.
