Wake County residents can recycle holiday waste for over two weeks after Christmas during the Solid Waste Division’s 12th annual “Holiday Wrap-Up” event. Items such as wrapping paper, trees, gift boxes and greeting cards can be dropped off for recycling beginning December 27 through January 14, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at any of these five participating Convenience Centers:

The holiday season is a time for exploding consumption rates for all sorts of materials. Studies show that in the weeks between Thanksgiving and the end of the year, Americans generate a 25-percent increase in waste. For that reason, Wake County encourages residents to reduce consumption and recycle whatever possible.

The County’s program will accept the following materials: Christmas trees (remove ornaments, lights and tinsel); corrugated cardboard; chip board (paper roll tubes, cereal boxes, etc.); glossy magazines/catalogs; greeting cards; SBS board (shirt boxes, etc.); and wrapping paper (no foil).

Residents should contact their municipality for information regarding curbside Christmas tree collection or dropoff programs in their cities and towns.

Residents can recycle electronics made by Lexmark, JVC, Panasonic, Sharp and Sony at the County’s North Wake Multi-Material Recycling Facility, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as any make of computer.
