Wake County Names Cope New Community Services Director

Frank Cope, assistant to the County Manager for Wake County, has been named director of Wake County Community Services, County Manager David Cooke announced today.

Cope will begin his new role as Community Services director on August 18, 2005. As Community Services director, he will lead the County department of 284 full- and part-time personnel responsible for providing services in the areas [divisions] of Libraries, Geographic Information Services, Inspections/Development Plans/Permits, and Parks, Recreation and Open Space.

As the assistant to the County Manager, Cope worked on a wide range of special projects as well as being responsible for the Board of Commissioners' agenda process. In addition Cope also served as the e-Government manager, helping the organization transform its business processes and functions into an electronic working environment.

"Frank brings a wealth of management experience with the County to his new position," Cooke said. "We're pleased that Frank's knowledge of County operations will be put to good use in such a citizen-focused department. He has earned the respect of his colleagues for his leadership and dedication to quality – skills that will serve Wake County citizens well."

Prior to working with Wake County, Cope served five years as the Town Administrator for Murfreesboro, N.C. He holds a bachelor's degree from Appalachian State University and a master's in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.
