Citizen Input Requested for Post-Closure Use of Landfill
7/19/2005
Wake County has scheduled a series of public meetings in coming months to get input from citizens on how best to use property surrounding the County-owned North Wake Landfill after it closes. The first in a series of five public planning meetings is scheduled for Tuesday August 2, at 7 p.m., at the Durant Road Middle School auditorium, 10401 Durant Road in Raleigh. The public is invited to attend.
At this meeting, an analysis of the existing site will be presented along with further details about the public planning process. Subsequent meetings and topics are as follows:
Tuesday, August 23:
Programming – What types of uses the public desires
Tuesday, September 27:
Design Alternatives
Tuesday, October 25:
Draft Master Plan
Tuesday, November 29:
Final Master Plan
Public input from these meetings will be used in the preparation of a master plan, which will serve as the County’s long-term blueprint for post-closure development. The County has hired the consulting firms OBS Landscape Architects and Camp Dresser & McKee to assist with the public planning process and preparation of the master plan.
Post-closure uses of the land off Durant Road in North Raleigh could include public and/or private development and opportunities for partnerships to fund and manage a new community asset.
