Local Candidates, Political Committees Must Register with Board of Elections

4/27/2005

The Wake County Board of Elections wishes to advise that any candidate for County, Municipal, or Board of Education elective office, in addition to any political action committee or referendum committee with influence within the confines of Wake County, must register with the Wake County Board of Elections.

To comply with North Carolina General Statutes, this registration must occur within 10 calendar days of either filing for political office or within 10 days of the organization of a political committee, whichever occurs first. Failure to do so may result in penalties imposed by the North Carolina State Board of Elections. A political committee is a combination of two or more individuals who receive or spend money in support of or in opposition to one or more candidates.

Interested persons should call the Campaign Finance Director for the Wake County Board of Elections at (919) 856-6742.
