Holiday Wrap-Up
12/14/2004
Wake County residents will be able to recycle extra holiday waste for two weeks after Christmas during the Solid Waste Division's 11th annual "Holiday Wrap-Up" event. Items such as wrapping paper, trees, gift boxes and greeting cards can be dropped off for recycling at five Convenience Centers across the County beginning December 26 through January 9, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Holiday Season is a time for exploding consumption rates for all sorts of materials. Studies found that in the weeks between Thanksgiving and the end of the year, Americans generate a 25-percent increase in waste. For that reason Wake County Solid Waste Management is encouraging all residents to be environmental stewards this holiday season by reducing consumption and taking advantage of a great opportunity to recycle their extra waste at any of the five participating Convenience Centers:
-
10505 Old Stage Road in Garner
-
3600 Yates Mill Pond Road in South Raleigh
-
1101 U.S. 64 Business Highway in Wendell
-
9004 Deponie Drive in North Raleigh
-
6000 Old Smithfield Road in Apex
Each of these five sites will accept the following materials:
-
Christmas trees (remove ornaments, lights and tinsel)
-
Corrugated cardboard
-
Chip board (paper roll tubes, cereal boxes, etc.)
-
Glossy magazines/catalogs
-
Holiday cards
-
SBS board (shirt boxes, etc.)
-
Wrapping paper (no foil)
Residents are also urged to contact their municipality for information regarding curbside Christmas tree collections or drop-off programs in their cities and towns.
Other opportunities to recycle holiday waste include:
Residents can recycle any electronics made by LEXMARK, JVC, PANASONIC, SHARP and SONY at the County's North Wake Multi-Material Recycling Facility, Monday thru Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This program is in addition to the County's ongoing computer recycling at North Wake.
