Rabies Clinic Oct. 23

10/20/2004

To help protect you and your pets, the Wake County Animal Care, Control & Adoption Center and the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine will host a rabies clinic Saturday, October 23, at the Wake County Adoption Center, 820 Beacon Lake Drive in Raleigh. The clinic will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"We encourage everyone to come out," said Dicke Sloop, Environmental Health and Safety Director. "It is imperative to make the community aware of the importance of keeping their animals current on their rabies inoculations. We are committed to making sure that the public is aware of how serious rabies can be and to educate them through our rabies clinics about how to protect themselves from exposure."

Rabies is a disease caused by a virus that can infect all mammals, including humans. It is transmitted through contact with the saliva or nervous tissue of an infected animal – usually through a bite. If an exposed person is not treated quickly, the virus may infect the person and could result in death.
