Melinda Canady, who has served as the Deputy Finance Director for Wake County since 1991, has been named Wake County Finance Director, County Manager David Cooke said today.

Canady, a native of Jacksonville, N.C., took on the role July 1 with the retirement of Cam Frazier, who had served as the County’s Finance Director since 1986. As Finance Director, Canady will lead the County agency of 34 staff members responsible for financial accounting and reporting, treasury, debt, risk management and procurement functions.

"Melinda shares our long-term vision for Wake County and has a solid commitment to team management," Cooke said.

Led by its Finance Department, Wake County has maintained a "Aaa" bond rating from Moody’s Investors Service since 1973, a "AAA" rating from Standard & Poor’s Corporation since 1983 and a "AAA" from Fitch since 2000 – the highest ratings a local government can achieve.

Canady brings a vast amount of knowledge of County operations as well as an extensive financial and systems background. Her prior work experience includes the Local Government Division of the State Treasurer’s Office as well as the N.C. State Auditor’s Office. She is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a BA in Accounting from North Carolina State University.
