Update Voter Registration

5/28/2004

If you are registered to vote in Wake County and have not received a voter card in the mail in recent weeks, yours is likely among the cards returned undeliverable to the Wake County Board of Elections, said Elections Director Cherie Poucher.

The Wake County Board of Elections mailed out nearly 400,000 voter cards in mid-May, reflecting the newly created state house and state senate districts effective for the 2004 election. The County sends out the cards at a reduced postage rate but is charged 37 cents for each card that is returned undeliverable. With 25,000 voter cards returned already, the cost to the county is considerable, Poucher said.

"I urge all Wake County voters to update their voter registration information with the Board of Elections to avoid delays at the polls, especially with the July 20 Primary and the November 2 General election right around the corner," Poucher said.

The deadline for the July 20 Primary to register to vote or to update your information is June 25.
