Trash Takers Debuts
5/20/2004
Where can you get rid of that old car that is rusting in the backyard? Look no further! As part of continued efforts to give residents and businesses the information they need to recycle and dispose of waste, Wake County has launched its new searchable database, appropriately titled Trash Takers, on the County's website, www.WakeGov.com.
"Trash Takers provides a fast and convenient way for residents and businesses to identify organizations that reuse, recycle or dispose of unwanted materials," said Kelley Dennings, a Wake County Waste Reduction Specialist, who has been working with staff to create the database. "With a couple of mouse clicks users can view comprehensive data that includes disposal facilities, recycling facilities, municipal and private haulers, recycled-content end markets and reuse organizations."
From aluminum cans to X-ray film, Trash Takers allows users to select from a list of common materials that people try to get rid of. Once a selection is made a list of companies that accept the material is displayed. Companies are also sorted by location to help users find the location closest to them. Output from the database includes the phone number and website address (if available) of organizations that accept the selected material. Users are advised to contact the organization to confirm hours of operation, fees and other restrictions prior to dropping off material. Trash Takers presents the output data so that users know whether the organization reuses, recycles or disposes of the specific material. In support of Wake County's continued efforts for waste reduction, users are encouraged to speak with reuse or recycling companies prior to contacting disposal facilities.
Trash Takers is located at www.wakegov.com/county/recycling/trashtakers. For more information about Trash Takers and other Wake County Solid Waste Management programs please click here or call 856-6186.
