Forty-two individuals and three groups who have provided outstanding volunteer service to the community were recognized at the 19th Annual Wake County Commissioners' Volunteer Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 26, at the Wake County Commons Building on Carya Drive in Raleigh. Honorees range from an individual who began a foundation in 1998 that recruits and trains community volunteers as technology instructors, trainers and mentors to a pet therapy group who provide individual attention to Dorothea Dix patients who have few opportunities for social interaction.

Of the 45 volunteer nominees, the top 10, identified by a selection committee of six local professional volunteer administrators, were recognized as Wake County Commissioners' Award Winners. The top five from the group of 10 were identified as Governor's Volunteer Award Winners and will also be honored by the Governor's Office at a separate event in the fall.
