Wake County residents will be able to recycle that extra holiday waste for two weeks after Christmas at the Solid Waste Division's annual "Holiday Wrap-Up" event. Items such as wrapping paper, trees, gift boxes and greeting cards can be dropped off for recycling at five Convenience Centers across the County for a limited time only.
Wake County's "Holiday Wrap-Up" will be held from December 26 - January 11, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the following Wake County Convenience Centers:
- 10505 Old Stage Road
- 3600 Yates Mill Pond Road

All sites will accept the following materials:

- Corrugated cardboard
- SBS Board (shirt boxes, etc.)
- Glossy magazines/catalogs
- Chip board (paper roll tubes, cereal boxes, etc.)

Other opportunities to recycle holiday garbage include:
Residential electronics made by LEXMARK, JVC, PANASONIC, SHARP and SONY can be recycled at the County's North Wake Multi-Material Recycling Facility, Monday thru Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a permanent program that is in addition to the County's ongoing computer recycling at North Wake. Call program coordinator Kelley Dennings at 856-5277 with questions.
Lake Crabtree County Park is reusing Christmas trees to address shoreline erosion with cabled rows of trees in some of the spots where the use of rip/rap is not feasible. The public may drop Christmas trees at the boat ramp parking lot at spot designated with a sign (not on the ramp itself). This can be done anytime between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. (park hours) from now until January 18th, excluding Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Styrofoam (polystyrene) can be recycled year-round at Wake Community Recycling, located at 6021 Triangle Drive in Raleigh. They accept molded Styrofoam and Styrofoam "peanuts" (PS #6) and are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 12 noon. Reasonable quantities are required, and there is a minimum $5 charge – call 571-7884 for further information. Other Styrofoam recyclers can be found on the State Recycling Markets Directory at http://www.p2pays.org/.
Residents also are urged to contact their local municipalities for information regarding curbside Christmas tree collections or dropoff programs in their cities and towns. Call Wake County Solid Waste Management at 856-6186 for more information.
