Suicide Survivors Conference
11/5/2003
Each year, more than 30,000 people in the United States die by suicide, leaving behind hundreds of thousands of spouses, partners, children, parents, siblings, friends, relatives, co-workers and healthcare professionals to struggle with this tragic loss.
Hospice of Wake County, located at 1300 St. Mary's St. in Raleigh, hosts the Raleigh Survivors of Suicide (SOS) Support Group every Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. Together with Wake County Human Services, Hospice is sponsoring the Second Annual Conference for Survivors of Suicide in the Triangle area, part of a nationwide teleconference scheduled for Saturday, November 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work, Tate-Turner-Kuralt Building.
This conference is designed to help survivors of suicide express and understand the troubling and powerful grief, stigma, pain and guilt they experience. Anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one by suicide, as well as healthcare professionals interested in learning from survivors about their struggle, is encouraged to attend.
Cost of the conference is $15, which includes parking and lunch. Registration forms are available from Nancy Smyth with Wake County Human Services at 919-212-7793. For more information, email Larry Bernstein at BernsteinLCSW@hotmail.com.
