Gardner to NACo Committee

Wake County Commissioner Kenn Gardner has been appointed to serve on the National Association of Counties (NACo) Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee. Newly elected NACo President and Boone County, Mo., Commissioner Karen Miller appointed Gardner to the post at NACo’s 2003 Annual Conference on July 15 in Milwaukee.
The Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee deals with all matters pertaining to air, water, and noise pollution control; solid and hazardous waste management and disposal; the preservation and proper usage of water resources; energy; and the use of land resources, including comprehensive planning, coastal zone management, growth management, energy facilities sitting, and recreation.
Gardner, vice chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners, also serves as chair of the Board’s Growth, Land Use and Environment committee.
“Commissioner Gardner is an excellent addition to the NACo leadership team, as his experience and expertise will make him a powerful county advocate on Capitol Hill,” NACo Executive Director Larry Naake said.
The National Association of Counties (NACo) is a full-service organization that provides legislative, research, technical and public affairs assistance to county governments. Created in 1935, NACo continues to ensure that the nation’s 3,066 counties are heard and understood in the White House and Congress.
