Low-Income Energy Assistance

The North Carolina Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), which gives families a one-time cash payment to help pay their heating bills, will be taking applications through Wake County Human Services NOVEMBER 3 THROUGH NOVEMBER 14.
WHAT IS LIEAP?
The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program gives families a one-time cash payment to help pay their heating bills. Checks will go out in early February.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Families must meet all of the following criteria:
- Household must meet an income test.
Household must be responsible for heating bills.
- Household cannot have assets greater than $2,200.
- Household must include a U.S. citizen or eligible alien.
WHAT IS EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE?
Wake County Human Services also takes applications for emergency assistance with winter heating bills for individuals and families who have a final notice or crisis need for heating fuel. Households must have income at or below 150% of poverty level to qualify. Appointments for Crisis Program will be made starting November 17.
