Openings and Delays

All Wake County Government offices are open for business on Friday, September 19, 2003, in the aftermath of Hurricane Isabel, with the exception of County schools. All emergency shelters have closed. Without power are the East Regional Library in Knightdale and Richard B. Harrison Library on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh, which will open as soon as power is restored. All Human Services facilities are open.

All Wake County Solid Waste Management Facilities are operating on normal schedules at the following facilities:

  • North Wake Landfill and Multi-Material Drop Off Facility
  • South Wake Transfer Station, Feltonsville Construction and Demolition Landfill and South Wake Multi-Material Drop Off Facility
  • Wake County Convenience Centers.

Please be advised that Wake County Convenience Centers are for residential use only and do not accept yard waste or tree debris. Residents should call their municipal jurisdictions for information on curbside pickup of debris. The Wake County Emergency Operations Center will close at noon, after which Emergency Management personnel will take storm-related calls at 856-6480. . County workers are currently assessing damage, reported to be relatively minor compared to other storms. Wake County emergency management personnel will coordinate appropriate assistance to other harder-hit counties as feasible and requested.
