Grant Funds Available

Recycling grant funds are available from the Wake County Solid Waste Management Division for innovative business recycling programs that promise significant environmental benefits and could be easily adopted by other companies. The grant application deadline is June 2, 2003.

"The County provides recycling grant funds to the business sector, since commercial, industrial and institutional entities create 70 percent of the waste," said Kelley Dennings, Wake County's Commercial Waste Reduction Specialist.

More than $34,000 was awarded earlier this year to six local companies that plan to implement recycling or composting programs, and the County has approximately $5,000 left to support more recycling projects this fiscal year.

"Last year's grant recipients recycled 3,000 tons of commercial waste and we hope to surpass that number this year," Dennings said. "Our grant winners in February 2003 included The Angus Barn, Conn Global Communications Elementary School, Gannett Fleming, Inc., Habitat for Humanity of Wake County Re-Use Center, PCM Construction, and the Town of Cary."
