Potassium Iodide Pills Distributed, 11/29/2002
Wake County Human Services distributed potassium iodide pills to nearly 20,000 citizens over the first weekend in November, while officials in Lee, Harnett and Chatham counties distributed pills to about 4,000 residents.

Board Elects Commissioner Herb Council As New Chair; Kenn Gardner To Serve As Vice Chair, 12/02/2002
The Wake County Board of Commissioners today elected Herb Council as its new chair and Kenn Gardner as vice chair, effective immediately, for a one-year term.  The chair presides over Board meetings and represents the County in an official capacity at community, business and other functions.

Watershed Management Task Force Recommends Ways to Protect Drinking Water, Reduce Flooding and Erosion, 11/18/2002
In an effort to protect the quality of the County's streams and rivers, Wake County and its local governments should require larger stream buffers in priority watershed areas, prohibit development in the 100-year floodplain, and encourage preservation of open space in subdivision developments, a Countywide task force recommended today.

Emergency Shelters Preparing For "White Flag" Initiative in Case of Severe Cold Weather, 12/03/2002
Agencies providing shelter for homeless persons are preparing to implement their "White Flag" (WF) initiative based on the severe cold-weather forecast over the next few days. The WF initiative is in place at The Healing Place, Helen Wright Center for Women (formerly the Ark), Raleigh Rescue Mission and South Wilmington Street Center. White Flag events are identified by extreme inclement weather and a physical white flag displayed at the facility.

Board of Commissioners Sets 2003 Meeting Schedule, 12/02/2002
The Wake County Board of Commissioners today set its 2003 meeting schedule.  The meetings will be held on the first and third Mondays of the month (unless changed for holidays or other reasons), beginning at 2 p.m. in Room 700, Wake County Courthouse, downtown Raleigh.
