Usher in Fall at Annual Harvest Celebration

Wake County’s Historic Yates Mill County Park will hold its 13th annual Fall Harvest Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free event features:

  • Harvest-related demonstrations and hands-on activities for the whole family.
  • A variety of community displays, storytellers and games.
  • Live music, singing and dancing.
  • Antique farm equipment and tractors.
  • Samples of foods made from corn and other products.
  • North Carolina State University’s Howling Cow ice cream.

Historic Yates Mill, Wake County’s last operable water-powered gristmill, will be open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. for half-hour tours and corn-grinding demonstrations conducted by costumed interpreters. Tours are $5 per adult, $4 for seniors (60+) and $3 for students (7-16). Children age 6 years old and younger are free.

Volunteers from the nonprofit group Yates Mill Associates will sell Yates Mill stone-ground cornmeal, mill merchandise and donated handmade crafts. All proceeds support the mill’s ongoing operation and maintenance.
