Williams Named Cooperative Extension Director

Katherine Williams has been selected as the director of Wake County Cooperative Extension. Cooperative Extension is a partnership between North Carolina State University and Wake County Government to provide practical education; and to help people, businesses and communities solve problems and develop skills. She started in her new role in February 2013.

Williams most recently co-led the County’s Human Capital Development Campaign. She has previously served as liaison with the County’s Human Services Department. Williams was first appointed to serve in Wake County as Extension 4-H agent in 1992.

"Katherine’s combination of skill and established insight into the Cooperative Extension partnership make her a good fit for this role," said Joe Durham, deputy County manager. "Her leadership will help to lead Cooperative Extension to achieve its goals for the people of Wake County.”

"With Katherine’s leadership, we will continue to strengthen the partnership that Cooperative Extension enjoys with Wake County government and the citizens of Wake County," said Dr. Travis Burke, director of N.C. Cooperative Extension’s Northeast District, which includes Wake County. "The Northeast District looks forward to having Katherine as part of our administrative team."

Katherine holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from N.C. State University.
