Want to support Hurricane Florence relief efforts?

Many Wake County residents have generously asked how they can help people impacted by Hurricane Florence. While the county appreciates their offers of assistance, it is not accepting donations from the public at this time.

County staff have been very busy keeping our residents safe from the impacts of the storm and operating six emergency shelters that housed more than 1,000 people. As they have focused on these efforts, they have not been able to accept, sort, store and distribute donations.

The good news is there are many other ways to help. Residents are encouraged to donate to trusted charities with proven track records of serving the community.

The North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund is currently accepting contributions to help fulfill the immediate unmet needs of people affected by Hurricane Florence. You can research other charitable organizations on websites such as the Better Business Bureau’s Give.org or CharityNavigator.org.

For tips on how to donate wisely and avoid charity scams, visit the Federal Trade Commission website.

Wake County residents who have non-emergency questions or issues can contact Wake County at 919-856-7044.
