Wake County Named Triangle’s Healthiest Employer

Wake County was named the region’s healthiest employer for 2017 at the Triangle Business Journal’s annual Healthiest Employers of the Triangle awards. The awards recognize local companies and non-profit organizations that commit to making wellness a priority while proactively shaping the health of their employees.

“We are honored to be named the healthiest employer in the Triangle,” said Human Resources Director Angela Crawford. “We are deeply committed to the health and well-being of Wake County employees, and our holistic approach to workplace wellness ensures we are able to provide something for each of them, regardless of where they fall on the continuum of wellness.”

Wake County was recognized for its innovative wellness programs and resources, especially Living Great @ Wake, the county’s umbrella benefits and wellness program. The program takes a holistic approach to well-being and emphasizes four dimensions of personal health – emotional, financial, physical and social.

The county offers more than 130 wellness programs ranging from on-site employee health clinics with condition management, weight loss and nutrition programs, to financial seminars, legal assistance and stress relief workshops.

Wake County knows that investing in employee wellness offers returns beyond improved physical health.

“It has been proven that employers can create a healthier, more productive work environment by offering employees the means and the educational tools to take control of their wellness,” said Crawford. “A well-executed program can not only reduce health care costs, but also increase employee productivity and retention, and reduce absenteeism.”

The Triangle’s top five Healthiest Employers will join regional winners from all over the nation to compete for a spot in the top 100 Healthiest Employers in the nation, which will be announced in fall 2018.

Wake County was recently named the No. 14 Healthiest Employer in the nation for 2016.
