North Wake Landfill Park Closing for Day on Wednesday, June 7

The North Wake Landfill District Park will be closed temporarily tomorrow, June 7, to allow for aerial and ground surveying to be conducted on the landfill mound. Contractors will be using commercial drones to conduct the survey. The inspection is part of post-closure care and maintenance requirements under North Carolina law.

The Federal Aviation Administration, which regulates commercially-operated drones, prohibits the public from being in the flight paths of the types of drones that will be used for the survey.

The park is expected to reopen to the public around 2 p.m.

The North Wake Solid Waste Management household hazardous waste and multi-material recycling drop-off facilities, and the convenience center for household garbage and recycling, will not be affected by the survey and will operate their normal business hours.
