Celebrate the Longleaf Pine at Harris Lake County Park

Wake County’s Harris Lake County Park will host the 8th Annual Longleaf Festival to celebrate the significance and history of the longleaf pine on May 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. At this free event, people can learn about the life of the longleaf pine, how fire plays a role in its survival, and the wildlife and plants that depend on its natural habitat.

More than 40 agencies and organizations will be at the festival with interactive educational exhibits to teach attendees about this unique ecosystem. People of all ages can enjoy live animals, nature-themed activities and games, children’s crafts and a scavenger hunt. Food vendors and live entertainment will be on site.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience the beauty of the longleaf pine on the Longleaf Express wagon. The N.C. Forest Service will serve as guide on the ride through the 60-acre forest. Longleaf Express tickets are free and limited.

Visit the Longleaf Festival web page to learn which organizations are participating and how to get a ticket for the Longleaf Express. Harris Lake County Park is located at 2112 County Park Drive, New Hill.
