Wake County Board of Commissioners Welcomes New Members

Board elects new chair, vice chair

Three members of the Wake County Board of Commissioners were sworn into office Monday night, Dec. 5, during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting, following successful runs during the 2016 General Election.

Erv Portman and Dr. James West are veteran commissioners. Portman served on the board from 2011–2012, while Dr. West has maintained his tenure on the commission since 2010. Greg Ford is embarking on his initial term. All three men will serve two-year terms on the board.

They join Commissioners John Burns, Matt Calabria, Jessica Holmes and Sig Hutchinson.

The board also elected its new chair and vice chair during the meeting. Hutchinson will serve as the board’s chair, and Calabria will serve as vice chair for the next year.

Additionally during the meeting, Laura M. Riddick was sworn in as the Wake County Register of Deeds, and Thomas Dean and Marshall Harvey took the oath of office for the Wake Soil and Water Conservation District Board.

The Wake County Board of Commissioners’ regular meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month at the Wake County Justice Center. The meeting schedule, agendas and minutes, and video of meetings can be viewed online.
