Veterans Benefits Action Center to Open in Cary

Veterans can file claims and enroll in VA benefits during three-day event

In an effort to honor military veterans, while remembering the victims and survivors of 9/11, Wake County Veterans Services and the Cary branch of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will host a Veterans Benefits Action Center Thursday, Sept. 8, through Saturday, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Herbert Young Community Center, located at 101 Wilkinson Ave. in Cary.

The VBA Center will provide eligible veterans and dependents with assistance in filing claims with the Veterans' Administration and enrolling in VA health care services. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet with VA officials and veterans service officers.

"Because we care about our veterans, we are proud to partner with the V.F.W. to help them navigate a complex system," said Douggy Johnson, director of Veterans Services for Wake County. "It's a small way to give back those who gave so much to protect our country."

Attendees are encouraged to bring proper identification, documents pertaining to their case, DD Form 214 and all medical records, both military and civilian.

The event is free and open to all veterans.
