Wake County to Open New Filing Period for Board of Education Candidates

As directed by the N.C. State Board of Elections, the Wake County Board of Elections will hold a new filing period for candidates who want to run in the 2016 General Election for the Wake County Board of Education.

The new filing period is in response to an Aug. 9 U.S. District Court order requiring the county Board of Elections to prepare for the Nov. 8 election using the 2011 redistricting plan that was used in the 2011 and 2013 Board of Education elections, rather than using a newer plan that was recently declared unconstitutional.

On Nov. 8, Board of Education members will be elected from nine single-member districts and serve two-year terms.

Residents can file for candidacy at the Wake County Board of Elections office at 337 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh, beginning at noon on Thursday, Aug. 11, and ending at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 17. All people seeking to appear on the General Election ballot for the Wake County Board of Education must file during this period, including those who previously filed for Board of Education candidacy.

The filing fee for Board of Education candidates is $148 and must be paid by check with a pre-printed name.

View more information here or contact the Board of Elections office at 919-856-6240.
