Wake Commissioners Award Contract to Build Middle Creek Community Library

Construction scheduled to begin in December

Construction is expected to begin soon on the Middle Creek Community Library in Apex. The Wake County Board of Commissioners awarded a nearly $3.1 million contract to build the new facility, during its regular meeting Monday, Nov. 16.

The library will be located at 111 Middle Creek Park Ave., a leased parcel of land on the Middle Creek High School property. Wake County entered into a 99-year lease with the Wake County Board of Education in 2003 for the 3.7-acre site, located in the Town of Cary's jurisdiction. The library will feature reading spaces for adults and youth, public computers and a space for special children's programs.

The library project is part of an updated Master Plan for County Libraries, endorsed in 2007 by the County commissioners. Later in 2007, Wake County voters approved a bond referendum totaling $45 million to expand the library system as recommended in the Master Plan. The Capital Plan identifies a total of six major library projects and several smaller facility improvements projects for existing libraries.

The project is expected to start in December and be completed in fall 2016.
