Wake to Host First County-Wide Recycling Day on Saturday

Have old TVs, files you no longer need or a bunch of batteries you don't know what to do with? Gather them up and come to Wake County's first Recycling Day, Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Wake Multi-Material Recycling Facility, 6130 Old Smithfield Road in Apex.

"The goal of this event is to encourage more people to recycle items that they might otherwise throw out in the trash," said John Roberson, Wake County Solid Waste Director. "By making it easier to recycle, we can reduce the amount of waste that goes into our landfills, which extends their lifespan."

On Saturday, the public can recycle all kinds of different items at the South Wake Multi-Material Recycling Facility. The services available include:

  • Paper Shredding: Confidential or sensitive documents (maximum of three file boxes per household);
  • Electronics Recycling: Anything with a cord such as TVs and small appliances;
  • Household Hazardous Waste Recycling: Materials such as batteries, thermometers and propane tanks; and
  • Household Recycling: Aluminum, glass, paper and plastic bottles.
