Wake to Host Operation Medicine Drop Event

Wake County Human Services, along with the Wake County Sheriff's Office and Safe Kids North Carolina, is sponsoring "Operation Medicine Drop," Tuesday, October 27, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wake County Human Services' Public Health Center, 10 Sunnybrook Road, in Raleigh. The event is designed to offer residents a place to safely dispose of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines and controlled substances.

Wake County staff and members of the Wake County Sheriff's Office will be on-hand to accept the medicines, no questions asked. By providing safe and secure ways for people to get rid of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications, Operation Medicine Drop helps prevent accidental poisonings and drug abuse while protecting our water supply.

"We are honored to be a part of a national movement that safely disposes unwanted and expired medicines," said Sue Lynn Ledford, Wake County Public Health Division Director. "By taking part in this initiative, citizens will not only prevent serious injuries resulting from the improper use of medicines, but they are protecting our environment, as well."

Citizens who will not be able to visit the Wake County Public Health Center on Tuesday, October 27, are encouraged to drop off their unused medicines at the Wake County Public Safety Center, 330 S. Salisbury St., in downtown Raleigh.
