Sims Named Board of Elections Director

GarySimsWEB.jpgGary Sims has been named the new Director of Elections for Wake County. He has been with the County for eight years, most recently serving as the Deputy Director of Elections.

The Director of Elections is appointed by the Wake County Board of Elections and is confirmed by the State Board of Elections. The Wake County Board has quasi-judicial authority over the elections process in Wake County.

"Gary has a great mix of experience here in Wake County and as a previous Director of Elections," said retiring Wake County Board of Elections Director Cherie Poucher. "I am confident that Gary has the skills to be an excellent Director of Elections in Wake County."

Before coming to Wake County, Sims served as the Director of the Wayne County Board of Elections.

He fills this role following the retirement of the longtime director, Poucher, whose last day is Tuesday, June 30, 2015. His first day in this new capacity is Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
