School to Hold 10th Anniversary Celebration of Walk to School Day

Olive Chapel Elementary School is having its 10th Anniversary Celebration of the monthly Walk to School Day Program on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. The school is located at 1751 Olive Chapel Road, Apex. The event is co-sponsored by the school and Active Routes to School Region Five.

Active Routes to School, a project of North Carolina's Safe Routes to School Program, promotes safe and active travel to and from school by promoting a safe, appealing environment for walking and biking, while also reducing traffic, fuel consumption and air pollution near schools.

Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.

The walking school bus will leave Kelly Road Park, 1609 Kelly Road, Apex, at 8:30 a.m. All participants must be accompanied by an adult. Speakers include a former student and a former teacher.
