Wake Names Intergovernmental Relations Manager, Communications Director

chris dillon.jpgWake County has named Chris Dillon as the new Intergovernmental Relations Manager. The Board of Commissioners authorized County Manager Jim Hartmann to restore the position at the regularly scheduled board meeting on Monday, January 5, 2015. 

As Intergovernmental Relations Manager, Dillon is responsible for researching and monitoring current legislation, coordinating the County lobbyist’s efforts and developing and maintaining positive relationships between the County and Wake County Public School System, Chamber of Commerce, Convention and Visitors Bureau, North Carolina Association of County Commissioners and other local governments. 

“Reinstating this position will greatly enhance our capacity for legislative support, and Chris has the proper experience and knowledge of federal, state and local government to assist our organization,” said Hartmann. 

Dillon has 14 years of state and local government policy experience specializing in energy, environment, transportation, agriculture, education and economic development. He has worked as director of Governmental Affairs for the Wildlife Resource Commission since 2011, where he is the chief contact between the agency and state and local governments, and has daily interactions with the General Assembly. Dillon graduated from Campbell University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in economics. He started his new position with the County on Monday, March 2, 2015. 

Dara Demi.jpgThe County has also named Dara Demi as its new Communications Director. Demi will oversee all communications for the County, providing leadership and guidance to the organization in external and internal communications, media relations and multimedia services. She started in her new role on Monday, March 2, 2015.

Demi has worked for the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) since 2007 and has served as Director of Marketing Communications since December 2013, where she oversaw all of NCDOT's marketing efforts, strategic communications work, social media presence, web content creation and mobile app design and development. Prior to joining the NCDOT in 2007, Demi worked at four different TV stations, most recently serving as morning news anchor at KVOA-TV in Tucson, Arizona. 

“Dara will bring a fresh perspective to the organization, and I am excited for her to join the Communications Office,” said Hartmann. 

She graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in history.
