Susan Banks, Clerk to the Wake County Board of Commissioners, has announced her plans to retire in January 2015. Banks has worked for county government for more than 30 years and began serving as Clerk to the Wake County Board in June 2006.

During her time in Wake County, she has worked with 15 different county commissioners, two county managers and two county attorneys. Prior to her coming to Wake County, she served as Clerk to the Pitt County Board of Commissioners. She is a past president of the NC Association of County Clerks and UNC School of Government Municipal County Administration Alumni Association and also a recipient of the NC Outstanding Clerk of the Year award.

Wake County Board of Commissioners chair Phil Matthews said, "I have enjoyed working with and getting to know Susan over the years. She has been an exceptional Clerk to the Board and we will all miss her dearly."

"Susan is a delight to work with. She is extremely professional, has a helpful demeanor and sense of humor," said Wake County manager Jim Hartmann. "I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with her."

The Board has begun searching for a new Clerk to the Board.
