School Board and County Commission Leaders Meet
(Joint Release with Wake County Public School System)

On Friday, January 17, 2014, Wake County Commissioners Chair Phil Matthews and Vice Chair Tony Gurley met with Wake County School Board Chair Christine Kushner and Vice Chair Tom Benton, along with Interim County Manager Joe Durham and Superintendent Jim Merrill.

The leadership of both boards came together to discuss ideas for improved communication; discussion of the interlocal agreement offered by the county commission and the school board's response; and the capital program schedule for site acquisition and construction. In addition there was discussion of scheduling a future joint meeting of the two full boards, and both chairs are seeking a joint meeting in February.

Board of Commissioners Chairman Matthews stated, "We had a good meeting. I am optimistic that we can work together."

Board of Education Chair Kushner stated, "I'm encouraged that our boards will work collaboratively in good faith. The community expects us to get along."
