Board Breaks Ground on Mixed-Use Development
The Wake County Board of Commissioners, Empire Properties and Concord Eastridge broke ground on "The L," a mixed-use project to be constructed on the façade of the Wake County Parking Deck, on Monday, December 2, 2013. The ceremony was held at the corner of McDowell and Davie streets, Raleigh.

"The board approved the public-private partnership which allows the developer to construct the project around the adjacent parking deck, that would result in the County not having to construct a brick and pre-cast concrete building façade, saving the County $1.2 million in exterior wall costs," said Wake County Board of Commissioners Chairman Joe Bryan.

Wake Commissioners approved the final documents to begin work on "The L" on Monday, October 21, 2013. The project is expected to be completed February 2015. "The L" will feature 11,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, 110,000 square feet of Class A office space and 83 apartment units.
