Public Invited to Celebrate 'GIS Day' Today

Wake Geographic Information Systems (GIS) invites the public to learn about geography and GIS technology as the County celebrates "Discovering the World Through GIS Day" today, Wednesday, November 20, 2013, through 3 p.m., at the City of Raleigh (COR) Museum, 220 Fayetteville Street, Raleigh. The event is free.

Staff will join the City of Raleigh and the State of North Carolina to host the open house and map gallery. There will also be a "name that rooftop in downtown Raleigh" contest from aerial imagery. Attendees can register to vote on their favorite map and have their name entered for door prizes.

GIS Day is designed to show how GIS helps address local and global issues and is celebrated globally during National Geographic Society's Geography Awareness Week, November 17–23, 2013.
